One of the best ways to get started in horse racing is to simple spend a day at the track and take pictures. Take pictures of everything – the fans cheering during a race, the horses being walked onto the track, the trainers and owners discussing race strategy in the saddling area. The more photos you take, the more you can reminisce about the day and slowing begin to truly understand the depth that is involved in horse racing.

Yes, get those action shots when the horses enter the gate or turn for home, but it will be all the other photos that show the action between the 25 or 30 minutes that occur between each race that will help you put a true perspective on this great sport of horse racing.

Taking horse photos and enjoying that moment with friends and family can make a great afternoon. Some of my best dates have been at the racetrack. Most tracks are old and have a lot of culture and history behind them. If you have a good video camera, getting some nice video footage of the horses being prepared for the race in the paddock can be truly memorable.
